Lecture by Estrella de Diego: ‘Warhol, the last painter of the classical tradition’

The Andy Warhol exhibition entitled Warhol & Dance, New York in the 50s, opened at Ivorypress Space on 27 October 2010. In honour of its closure, on 11 December 2011, Ivorypress presented Warhol, the last painter of classical tradition, a master class given by Estrella de Diego against the backdrop of 60 original drawings by Andy Warhol, which comprised the exhibition. This was the last chance to see these drawings from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. together before they were returned to their respective public and private collections.

Estrella de Diego is a professor of contemporary art at Madrid’s Complutense University and has been a guest lecturer at many universities in Spain and in other countries. She has held many posts throughout her career, including the King Juan Carlos I of Spain Chair in Spanish Culture and Civilization at New York University (1998-99). Her research focuses on gender theory, visual and postcolonial studies and the origins of modernity. She has curated many exhibitions, including Warhol on Warhol (La Casa Encendida, Madrid), and has written several books, such as Tristísimo Warhol (Editorial Siruela, Madrid, 1999).
