Dorothy Braude Edinburg has amassed one of the most important private collections of drawings in the United States. This book celebrates her gift of 240 drawings to the Art Institute of Chicago. Many of the 166 works featured are well known, while others are previously unpublished. All will be illustrated in full color and accompanied by detailed texts. An introduction traces the collection’s history, provides an overview of its significance, and details its relationship to the Art Institute’s stellar holdings of works on paper.
Among the many beautiful and important drawings are works by Boucher, Watteau, Cézanne, Degas, Gauguin, Monet, Renoir, Blake, Gainsborough, Hogarth, and Turner. Strong examples of early 20th-century drawings by Braque, Kandinsky, Klee, Miró, Modigliani, Mondrian, Matisse, and Picasso are also included. Distinguished drawings by American artists complete the impressive survey.
