Catalog published on the occasion of the Alberto Giacometti exhibition at the Museo del Prado, held at the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid, between April 2 and July 7, 2019. | In the framework of the celebration of its two hundredth anniversary, the Prado Museum inaugurated an exhibition dedicated to one of the most representative artists of twentieth century art, Alberto Giacometti, who conceived art as a single and simultaneous place of confluence of the past and present. Although the Swiss sculptor never traveled to Spain, he attended in 1939 the exhibition Chefs-d’uvre du Musée du Prado held in Geneva, where most of his collections had been moved during the Spanish Civil War. In that exhibition several of Giacometti’s favorite painters were represented, such as Durero, Rafael, Tintoretto, El Greco, Goya or Velázquez; with several of which shares room in the present exhibition.
Carmen Giménez, its curator, conceives Alberto Giacometti at the Museo del Prado as a posthumous walk, where the sculptures of the artist pass through the main galleries of the Museum. The present catalog serves as a graphic testimony of this meeting.
