Presentation and book signing: ‘The Pedro Almodóvar Archives’

15 / 12 / 2011

Filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar presented the book The Pedro Almodóvar Archives on 15 December at Ivorypress. The publication, edited by Taschen, takes an in-depth look at the complete work of the Spanish director, screenwriter and producer.

The director of The Skin I Live in shared the podium with Antonio Sanz, Director of Ivorypress, and filmmaker Vicente Molina Foix, who gave an overview of Almodóvar’s life and career. Some actors and actresses who have worked with the filmmaker, like Marisa Paredes, Elena Anaya, Blanca Suárez, Jan Cornet, Loles León and Bibiana Fernández, also joined the event. Edited by Paul Duncan and Barbara Peiró in collaboration with the director, the book includes more than six hundred photographs—many of them previously unpublished—taken from shootings and posters of his films. Festival de Cannes artistic director Thierry Fremaux is the author of the introduction to this book, which had previously been presented with great success in Los Angeles and New York.

The book also includes texts, written by renowned Spanish authors, about each of Almodóvar’s movies and about Almodóvar himself who admitted that ‘this book is the closest thing to an autobiography that has ever been written regarding my person’. Numerous fans filled the room and had the chance to buy an edition signed and dedicated by the director himself. The Spanish edition was available for the following months at Ivorypress Bookshop, together with a limited edition of five hundred copies numbered and signed by the filmmaker, which included a photograph of Penélope Cruz as Marilyn Monroe, shot and signed by the director of High Heels.
