Miroslav Tichý

Miroslav Tichý (Kyjov, Czech Republic, 1926). After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Tichý withdrew to his native city of Kyjov. At the end of the 1950s, he gave up painting and embarked on a personal journey. At the end of the 1960s, he began taking photographs, particularly of local women, using handmade cameras he had made himself. He later added to the photos with a pencil and placed them in handmade frames, creating a style somewhere between photography and drawing. The result is a body of work with formal qualities that are surprising due to their unusual nature, ignoring the rules of conventional photography. His images form an extensive oeuvre with a poetic vision of female beauty. Ivorypress inaugurated their Space I with an exhibition of Tichý’s work in 2009. It was his first exhibition in Spain.
