Isidoro Valcárcel Medina

Isidoro Valcárcel Medina (Murcia, Spain, 1937). At the age of 19 Valcárcel Medina moved to Madrid to study Architecture and Fine Arts, although he never finished his studies. He started his professional career in an informal aesthetic but soon moved on to more constructivist and rational styles. He came into contact with minimalism in New York and his work took a turn. He took part in the Pamplona Meetings in 1972, organised around conceptual art. He was one of Spain’s leading contributors. Fully committed to creation, he always criticised commercial art trends. He asserts that he has not sold any of his works. His artistic career was recognised in 2007 with the National Plastic Arts Award.
