Original paper-covered boards, spine lettered in black, black-and-white photograph reproduced to upper side; page edges lightly toned. Original blackand- white photo-illustrated dust-jacket; short closed tear and a nick to lower panel, loss of laminate to head of spine, rear flap creased. Near-fine.\n\nFirst edition. Arbus had a liking for aphorisms; in a letter to Marvin Israel on 12 January 1961 she noted that ‘the world is full of fictional characters looking for their stories.’ This monograph was published to accompany a retrospective exhibition of Arbus’s work at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in the year following her suicide.
