Tian Doan Na Champassak – Parkett

Tiane Doan na Champassak works from his own collection of ‘Parkett’, a seminal art magazine issued between 1984 and 2017. His subtle approach consists of isolating numerous double-spreads of gallery advertisements, all from the magazine’s first five years. Coherent in style and form, these ads are artworks in their own right, reflecting the conceptual production of those years. Simple yet sophisticated, they trace an alternative history of postmodern and contemporary art, marking the recurrence of certain artists (Richard Prince, Marcel Broodthaers, Michael Heizer, Louise Bourgeois, Ed Ruscha, Anish Kapoor, Cindy Sherman, and others) in the art world landscape of the 1980s.
