RASHID JOHNSON: THE HIKERS
Rashid Johnson: The Hikers chronicles the eponymous collaboration between the Aspen Art Museum, Museo Tamayo, and Hauser & Wirth New York. The centerpiece of these exhibitions—which featured work from Johnson’s diverse practice, including his ceramic tile mosaics, collaged paintings, and sculptures—was Johnson’s film of the same name, an exploration of movement and Blackness, shot on location in the mountains of Colorado. The publication documents each presentation and a related performance at the Aspen Art Museum, alongside a beautiful retelling of the film in stills. Also featured is a conversation between Johnson and choreographer Claudia Schreier, as well as insightful essays by curators Heidi Zuckerman and Manuela Moscoso.
