PURGATORIO DELLA SCALALOGIA

Based on her research into staircase theory for her works in the «Stufen zur Kunst» series in the Eastern staircase of the Künstlerhaus Hannover, the artist Jasmin Werner has produced a print edition together with the design studio Pandan from Berlin.
Excerpt from the text by Christoph Platz-Gallus:
L´ESPRIT DE L´ESCALIER
The staircase, a central element in prestigious architecture, is a representative of social and societal structures both as a building and decorative element and, in a figurative sense, for symbolic gradients that can be derived from its structure. To this day, courtly customs regulate who must ascend and descend it and when.
The artist Jasmin Werner has long been interested in the spirit of the staircase. Her starting point were models from the Friedrich Mielke Institute, which Rem Koolhaas included as part of his Elements of Architecture concept at the 2014 Architecture Biennale. The monument conservator and namesake Mielke (who lost a leg in the war) once founded the Scalalogy Department, which has been part of the Regensburg University of Applied Sciences since 2012. This is where Jasmin Werner conducted research for her artistic practice, in which she combines site-specific aspects with approaches from sociological and psychological research.
At the invitation of Kunstverein Hannover and Stiftung Niedersachsen, Jasmin Werner has realized a work for the project series Stufen zur Kunst at Künstlerhaus Hannover, with points of reference in the Divina Commedia and its Islamic references.
The Leporello, based on the project in Hanover, is a special edition in a small print run.
