Mondino: Three at Last
Twelve long years of waiting for Mondino’s third magnificent opus have finally paid off: Three at Last is a scintillating display of fireworks that does credit to the perpetual provocateur that is Mondino. He continues to present fashion in a flamboyant way, but always with an element of cheek and in opposition to the en vogue mainstream, the further development of which he is constantly helping to shape. He prefers to photograph celebrities-such as Tilda Swinton, Penelope Cruz, Sharon Stone, Daniel Craig, George Clooney, David Lynch, and Quentin Tarantino, for example-in bizarre outfits and settings, and undeterred by political correctness, the cigarette plays a leading role as an attribute of male and female coolness in many of his photographs.
Jean-Baptiste Mondino, born 1949 in Aubervilliers near Paris, has radically altered the marketing stratégies of the rock, pop, and fashion scenes with his photos, computer-manipulated images, and video clips. He has long ranked among the most prominent and internationally influential commercial photo – graphers and video artists. Three at Last is technically brilliant in the extreme-a provocative mixture of wit, glamour, black humor, and bizarre eroticism.
Like its predecessors Déjà vu (1999) und Two Much (2003), it is a never-ending source of inspiration for all those who share a professional or ardent interest in photography, advertising, fashion, music, and lifestyle.
