Between 1981 and 2003, Mark Cohen takes several trips to Mexico. Fascinated by this country he calls surrealist, he wanders with his camera, without any anthropological nor social focus, in the streets of Mexico, Merida and Oaxaca. For a split-second, Mark Cohen comes very close to his subjects whom he captures dazzled by the artifical light of the flash. His black and white photographs, taken at arms length, most of the time without aiming, pick up pices of gestures, postures and bodies. From these images emerge a nervous energy and an everyday strangeness.
