Mac Conner Selected Works

McCauley «Mac» Conner (b. 1913) ascended from correspondence-school drawing lessons to join the ranks of top illustrators in 1950s New York City. His story – a classic New York tale – provides a fascinating bridge to mid-century illustration and our city’s original «Mad Men.» This publication serves as a companion to Mac Conner: A New York Life, the latest in an ongoing series of exhibitions at the Museum of the City of New York that examine the lives of emblematic New Yorkers. This is the first exhibition and first publication dedicated to Conner, who made his career at a time when New York dominated American publishing and advertising, and when illustration defined the graphic look of those industries. This book includes reproductions of over 50 original works Conner created for leading women’s and general interest magazines, including Redbook, Collier’s, Good Housekeeping, and Cosmopolitan.
