Hiroshi Sugimoto : Seascapes
Seascapes gathers for the first time the entire series with a large number of previously unpublished images. For over thirty years, Sugimoto has been traveling the world to photograph seas. From light to darkness, the seascapes go over the edges, the surface of the sea changes from a calm sea to delicate swirls, from mat to iridescent. The horizon gradually dissolves creating true abstract « tableaux » where the sea and the sky melt into one entity.
A text, in French, by Munesuke Mita, professor of sociology at the University of Tokyo, accompanies this journey and enlighten us on Sugimotos approach by examining contemporary art with regard to history and sociology
