Ivorypress presents Broken Light, a publication on the first solo exhibition of Brazilian artist Felipe Cohen in Spain.

The show, focused on his Light series, feature Cohen’s paintings on wood. The artist’s subtle and elegant manner of creating is reflected directly through the pieces included in the exhibition, as the shapes interlace with the mellow colours.

The genre of landscape is explored and constantly reinterpreted through the geometric elements and colours of these pieces, revealing more than first meets the eye. The fine brushstrokes extend over the wooden surface, articulating the materials and everyday objects used.

‘My main aim was to portray nature as a field of constant indeterminacy and change, which is generated through systems. The construction of geometry and repetition of triangular modules brings about control and rigour, whereas the appropriation of the organic nature of the wooden veins and the watercolour process makes the natural marks of the material visible, creating an atmospheric, less graphic effect.’
