Cahiers d’Art presents a monograph dedicated to Ellsworth Kelly, co-edited by Centre Pompidou

« After constructing « Window » with two canvases and a wood frame, I realized that from then on painting as I had know it was finished for me. […] It was a new freedom : there was no longer the need to com- pose. The subject was there already made, and I could take from every- thing. »
Ellsworth Kelly, Notes, 1969

Ellsworth Kelly, one of the most important artists of the 20th century, was a key figure in the rebirth of Cahiers d’Art. On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition Windows at Centre Pompidou, Cahiers d’Art has been invited to edit and publish this beautiful book in close collabo- ration with the Ellsworth Kelly Studio. Through two essays penned by Jean-Pierre Criqui and Yve-Alain Bois respectively, Ellsworth Kelly: Windows offers a new study on this cardinal moment of the artist’s career by anchoring itself on the motif which has given it the dominant tonality, from about eighty works brought together for the first time.
