Presentation: “La Colección del Museo Guggenheim Bilbao”

19 / 02 / 2010

This publication, entitled La Colección del Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, was presented in an encounter with the museum’s general director, Juan Ignacio Vidarte, and the historian, critic and comissioner Francisco Calvo Serraller. After many years of thorough investigation and editorial work, the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao co-published along with TF Editores a large volume dedicated to its collection holdings. For this seminal text, the Guggenheim has managed to unite 40 historians and art curators, critics and international experts of acknowledged prestige, which, together with the museum’s own curators, reveal their thoughts about the artworks and the artists included in the collection.

This volume, presented in two editions, English and Spanish, contains 62 essays, one for every artist integrated in the collection. This catalogue describes the 102 works that constitute the Museum’s art corpus thoroughly. At the same time, it proves the coherence of the collection and of the acquisition criteria that has prevailed in the museum’s purchasing of art since 1996.
