‘A remote whisper’, by Pedro Cabrita Reis

30 / 05 / 2013

a remote whisper is an installation by the world renowned Portuguese artist Pedro Cabrita Reis, specifically produced on the occasion of the 55th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. It will be open from 30 May to 24 November 2013.

The artist presents in the 700 m² piano nobile of Palazzo Falier a monumental site-specifc installation, that occupies the walls and the foors of the exhibition space with aluminium tubes, fuorescent lights and cables, radically redefining its space. The exhibition, curated by Sabrina van der Ley, displays a semi-precarious, hand-made, almost architectural construction that combines materials coming from Cabrita Reis’s studio like parts of earlier works, documentary material, photos, drawings and paitings with flotsam and jetsam found in the city.

Cabrita Reis, whose artistic practice has always sought to create a strong relation between the artwork, space and viewer, emphasizes in his installation at Palazzo Falier his inclination to not distinguish between exhibition and work space.
