Workshop on Bruno Munari’s books

On the 27th of April Ivorypress Art+Books will house a Workshops about the books by Italian artist and designer Bruno Munari, titled “From the Tactile Tablets to the Unreadable Books”. This activity proposes a introduction into the career of Munari and his idea of the book as privileged instrument to give form to thoughts, to projects and to investigation.

In this workshop, organised and put into practise by the Italian Publishing house Corraini, the participants got to know the work of Munari in relation with books, taking the futuristic experience as a starting point, from the tactile tablets and the prelibri until the arrival of unreadable books. The experimentation with materials in order to “read with the hands”-sheets, formats, silhouettes, colours, binding techniques and stampings-can create histories that can be read with all of the senses. Bruno Munari (Milan, 1907-1998) has contributed fundamentally to the visual arts (painting, sculpture and film), literature, poetry and didactics as well as industrial and graphic design. One of his most important contributions was the book Cómo nacen los objetos, in which he proposes a methodology for every kind of design. The steps of this methodology still hold true today. Edizioni Corraini is a publishing workshop open to Italian and international artists, illustrators and designers.

Corraini publications are particularly devoted to graphics and design and the collaboration with Bruno Munari brought a special attention to the world of artist’s books for children. The Edizioni Corraini catalogue was created alongside the already existing art gallery (founded in 1973 in the Palazzo Finzi, Mantua, Italy). Corraini’s catalogue includes, among others, works by Bruno Munari, Martí Guixé, Enzo Mari, Bob Gill, Ettore Sottsass, Paul Rand, Andrea Branzi, Steven Heller, Steven Guarnaccia, Alessandro Mendini, Alfredo Jaar, Daniel Eatock, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Antonio Marras and Harriet Russell. Corraini has recently launched a new collection of objects and toys created by artists and designers.
