Shirin Neshat. Images and history
This publication is a record of the lecture given by Shirin Neshat at the Saïd Business School on Monday 7 May 2012 as the second Humanitas Visiting Professor in Contemporary art at the University of Oxford, a professorship supported and organised by Ivorypress. In ‘Images and history’ Neshat shares with her audience a reflective and revealing account of both her artistic process and the evolution of her work, highlighting its transitional—somewhat ‘nomadic’— character, as well as illustrating how her production has departed from overtly political content and critique in favour of more poetic imagery and narratives. Shirin Neshat is an Iranian-born artist who lives and works in New York. Neshat has held numerous international solo exhibitions and her first feature-length film, Women without Men, received the Silver Lion Award for Best Director in the 66th Venice International Film Festival.
