The Prado
Memory of the project by the artist Francesco Jodice, exhibited at the Museo del Prado during the winter of 2011-2012. Published conciding with the exhibition of this work at the Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane, Australia.
In the words of the author “The project consists in two works: a short film and a video installation, both installed at the Museo del Prado as a tribute to the viewer. In the Prado, every day, appears on the scene a sense of belonging as a result of the encounter between space and the community who frequent it. The gazes, the voices and the journeys of its visitors, recalls a sense of familiarity with the work and the architectural space that houses it, giving the impression that the museum is closer to it´s visitors. The aim of this project is to build an atlas of the people at the Prado Museum, a visual encyclopedia of that part of humanity that keeps alive the museum and its works. Who are the men and women who have faced to the works of Velázquez and Ribera, Goya and El Greco at the beginning of XXI century? The project is also the beginning of an ethnographic file about this human landscape ”
The book contains a selection of eighty portraits of visitors of the Museum, and includes an introductory text by Miguel Zugaza, director of the Museo Nacional del Prado, “Democracy of the museums”, “A sniper at the Prado” by writer and journalist Juan José Millas and an explanation of Francesco Jodice´s own project entitled “Spectaculum Spectatoris”.
