The magic bar
The Swedish photographer Kenneth Gustavsson is now introduced with a retrospective exhibition at Fotografiska in Stockholm from October 5 to November 18. At the same time the book The Magic Bar is released by the Swedish publisher Bokförlaget Max Ström.
Gustavsson studied at the legendary Christer Strömholm’s Fotoskolan in Stockholm in the mid 60s.
Together with his fellow student Anders Petersen he portrayed the Stockholm slums in an exhibition at the Stockholm City Museum in 1969. Travels to Hamburg, Paris, and Mallorca resulted in many of his most exciting photos.
After a decade of photographic silence, Gustavsson was introduced to a new generation of photo enthusiasts by the magazine ETC in 1983 with a 16 page presentation. This became the starting point of a new creative flow. In the following decades, Gustavsson made several trips to cities like Belfast, Chicago, Reykjavik and New York for ETC magazine. In 1984 he was also awarded FOTO magazines big prize.
