The last picture show: Artists using photography 1960-1982
In 1976, critic Nancy Foote wrote that for every photographer who clamours to be an artist, there is an artist running a grave risk of turning into a photographer’. This exhibition traces the development of post-war Conceptual art where photography has specifically been used. Intended as a major genealogy of the rise of a still-powerful and evolving photographic practice, it includes works by 60 artists (Hans Haacke, Vito Acconci, Bruce Nauman, Cindy Sherman, Martha Rosler, Andy Warhol,) and 25 texts theories and opinions by artists (including Dan Graham, Jeff Wall, John Baldessari and Barbara Kruger). Printed on smooth glossy paper.
