Pablo Picasso. Suite Vollard

This new publication from the Fundación MAPFRE Collections takes a tour of the Vollard Suite , the 100 copper engravings that Pablo Picasso made between September 13, 1930 and March 1937, commissioned by the dealer and publisher Ambroise Vollard, and which today is considered one of the most of the most important historical-artistic testimonies of the 20th century.

The set appeared in 1939 in two different formats, one large (760 x 500 mm) on wove paper signed by the artist in red or black pencil, with 50 copies per plate; and another smaller one (445 x 340 mm) on Montval laid paper with the “Vollard” or “Picasso” watermark in a print run of 250 copies. This second format is today dispersed as loose sheets in different private or public collections and only some of these sets, such as that of FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE, are preserved together.

The catalog includes the reproduction of all the plates that make up the series and has texts by Rocío Robles and Leyre Bozal Chamorro. In addition, it is completed with a chronology that addresses the period in which Picasso recorded the series.
