P.M. is a glue-bound, risograph-printed book that uses photographs from P.M., a newspaper circulated in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Morales has used an eraser to obscure images of “corpses and dismembered bodies… generating an accumulation of waste that alludes metaphorically to the ashes of a life that is no longer here.” Morales’ erasing creates light clouds, appropriately ghost-like, that hover above the remaining original image. In the absence of what would have been each photograph’s grim focal point, the reader’s eye is drawn to what surrounds death—police officers, embracing loved ones, advertisements for Pepsi Cola.
