Lifelike
Illusions have enormous power to captivate and to marshal our attention toward things we might otherwise deem unimportant. When scrutinized through an artists hands and eyes ordinary subjects have the potential to be transformed and to take on new meaning. This catalogue accompanies the exhibition of the same name, which spans a variety of contemporary artists since the late 1960s who have, in one way or another, expressed an unusual interest in the realistic depiction of the mundane. Included are works by Chuck Close, Jasper Johns, Ai Weiwei, Paul Sietsema, Kaz Oshiro, Catherine Murphy, Gerhard Richter, Susan Collins, and many others.
