La Movida: Cronica de una agitación
From the year 1978 and during almost a decade, Madrid will be the origin and meeting point of a turmoil. La Movida was not an artistic movement. Nor did he have what is so common in any movement worth his salt, such as having a political manifesto or intentions. No, the Movida was an explosion. A youthful convulsion to start. The circumstances propitiated it. It left the ostracism and closure of the dictatorship and a restless layer of youth was launched to life. The images taken by Miguel Trillo, Pablo Pérez-Mínguez, Ouka Leele and Alberto García-Alix are the reference in photography of what happened. Not only were they witnesses, but also, actors involved. In a few years, what began with the drive, humility and precariousness of young self-taught, took root and mutated in modernity. It affected all layers of Spanish society. La Movida had its own creation and a visual imaginary to unite it to the heart of time.
This catalog has been published on the occasion of the exhibition “La Movida, chronicle of an agitation”. Commissioners of the exhibition: Antoine de Beaupré, Irene de Mendoza, Pepe Font de Mora. Exhibition co-produced by the Foto Colectania, Barcelona and Rencontres d’Arles Foundation.
