Jim Shaw: Left Behind
In 2004, American artist Jim Shaw began the series of monumental paintings entitled Left Behind. Besides being an immense tribute to painting and culture in general, the work is primarily a gesture of opposition, a critical diatribe against simplistic, one-dimensional discourse and the standard, reassuring rhetoric Shaw sees in political posturing, the media and advertising. He reveals the fragility and ambivalence of language and symbols, which can be constantly altered and reinterpreted. Through visually captivating illustrations, previously unpublished texts by the artist and many contributions, this box set offers a wide overview of this cycle of paintings.
