A great number of more than 300 photographs contained in these pages became famous following their publication in books such as The Decisive Moment. However, many others that come from the collection and archives of the Henri Cartier-Bresson is one of the most celebrated and influential figures in the history of photography. Born into a prosperous Parisian family, Cartier-Bresson was only in his mid-twenties when his inventive pictures helped to establish the artistic identity of modern photography. Peter Galassi, the autor of this book, is Chief Curator of Photography for the Museum of Modern Art in New York ( MoMA) and head of this museum’ s great retrospective exhibition of Henri Cartier-Bresson, on which this edition is based.
