Catalogue for the exhibition “Los Carpinteros. Handwork – Constructing the World. Works from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Collection”, organised by the Es Baluard museum with the sponsorship of the Fundación Banco Santander. Es Baluard presents the first individual exhibition in a Spanish museum by the artists of Cuban origin, Los Carpinteros (Dagoberto Rodríguez and Marco Castillo), through an outstanding selection of their works produced between 2003 and 2011, belonging to T-B A21, a foundation created by Francesca von Habsburg in 2002. The watercolours – their most prolific medium – and sculptures and installations are the result of their interest in architecture, the urban environment, and everyday objects, reinterpreted by means of contradictions between object and functionality, and also reflect their interest in current political reality. The publication includes the colour reproduction of all the works exhibited, and the critical text by the curator, Daniela Zyman, head curator of T-B A21.
