Fire untouched by smoke
Fire Untouched by Smoke contains 11 lacquer-printed drawings by German artist Daniel Lergon, which bleed through the paper on which they are printed, appearing mirrored on both sides of the leporellos surface. Interspersed with the drawings are 20 texts by the poet Gregory Carlock: a collection of rhymed poems, quotations, aphorisms and anti-metaphysical invective. The juxtaposition of image to text enables a number of visual-poetic readings while never actually engaging in direct dialogue with one another. Fire Untouched by Smoke focuses on the transparent character of Lergons drawings in conjunction with Carlocks original texts in an object that must be unfolded in three dimensions to be fully perceived.
