Fata Morgana gives name to a complex mirage that distorts objects and vanishes very quickly. Visible from the region of southern Italy from which I come, Salento creates the illusion of looking at the mountains of Albania from the Adriatic Sea, but for me it represents a powerful metaphor for the contemporary geopolitical situation.

Salento, like all of Europe, has recently become a place of mystery and hope for those fleeing Africa or the Near East. However, photographs published by newspapers often reduce the lives of migrants to a few common stereotypes or to a transitory moment of their existence.

This project is a narrative between the real and the fictional that invites those who approach it to recreate their own history, fill in the gaps and give the characters of the book the possibility of duplicating themselves and transforming themselves into other people. The possibility of dreaming, which is a fundamental aspect of the existence of all human beings.

This work is the winner of the third edition of Photocanal Contest photo book 2018, organized by the Community of Madrid and Ediciones Anómalas.
