El Cordero Místico
Catalogue published on the exhibition “Eduardo Arroyo. The Mystic Lamb “, shown at the Prado Museum from 4 July to 30 September, 2012.
In 2008, the painter Eduardo Arroyo (Madrid, 1937) undertook the project of making a personal vision in black and white of the polyptych of the Mystic Lamb (c. 1432) by the brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck, preserved in the Cathedral of St. Bavo in Ghent. This draw was made in pencil on tracing paper, and has the same size as the original altarpiece composed of twenty tables.
The catalogue includes an introductory text by José Manuel Matilla, Head of the Department of Prints and Drawings from the Prado Museum, and the faithful reproduction of all the tables that form the polyptych of Arroyo and the original work of van Eyck brothers who served as inspiration for the madrilenian artist.
