E-City is an analysis on the development of Information and Communication Technology. It is a study that illustrates the innovations introduced by new technologies and the significant changes in urban planning and in future urban models. E-city describes these changes in three parts: e-Network, development of digital networks and territorial transformation processes; e-Planning, planning instruments and their innovations related to ICT development; e-City, cities and territories of the future. In the appendix, with a contribution from researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, and recent studies from the Senseable City Lab, explaining how ICTs help describe, understand, use and project the cities of the future.
About the Author
Paolo Fusero was born in Genoa in 1960. He graduated in Architecture at the University of Genoa in 1986 and began his professional career in urban planning with Bruno Gabrielli. His most significant contributions are the Master Plans of Piacenza, Pisa, Paterno and Parma, as well as the Ragusa Provincial Plan. He is also an urban planning consultant: from 1996 to 1998 he was City Manager for the Municipality of Parma, where he was senior director of the municipality’s Technical Services Department. He was a visiting scholar at the Tonji University, Shanghai (1991) and PHD student at the University of Waterloo, Toronto (1994). He has been lecturing in Urban Studies at the Faculty of Architecture, “G. d’Annunzio” University, Chieti-Pescara since 1999. At present he is associate professor and he coordinates the deanship office of the faculty.
