Brancusi
The publication Brancusi ou lanonymat du génie was published for the first time in 1967 by Méridiane publisher in Bucarest. A tribute to the Romanian sculptor, the book features over a hundred of photographs made by Dan Er Grigorescu, fascinated by the work of this master of modernity. In the same spirit of the first edition, this new monograph has drawn from the photographers exceptional archive, a documentation of Brancusis iconic sculptures in his studio and from the monumental ensemble of Târgu Jiu, a small town of western central Romania. Grigorescus graphic and sober vision, with a particular focus on textures as well as on interplays of light and shadow, render the abstracted quality of Brancusis sculptures.
An essay by Julie Jones shed light on the encounter between these two artists while the texts by Calin Dan and Dan Haulica give a critical perspective on Brancusis work.
