Aus der Dunkelheit
Marc Volk was born 1967 in Stuttgart,(Germany). Between 1991 and 1998 studies of photography at the University GH Essen (Germany). 1994-1995 Marc Volk had a scholarship for studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (NL). In 1995 he got the Kodak-European-Panorama-Award for Photography and in 1998 he made his diploma with his work “Aus der Dunkelheit”, now shown at PARISPHOTO and published in our edition. 1999 he got the Scientific Prize for Design, Sparkasse Essen. In 2001 he became a member of the “Deutsche Fotografische Akademie”. “‘Out of the Darkness’ questions the long-held belief in the function of photography as the mimetic reproduction of visible reality. (.) The two-dimensional flatness of the photographic image, limited by its borders, moves up to a new level of representation which resembles the perspective illusion of spaces in immaterial holograms. In this way, Volk experimented with the new method of inter-medial between photograph and projection.”
