For almost 40 years, Turner Prize winning British artist Antony Gormley has been creating sculptures that explore the relationship between the body and space. This exhibition catalog documents his spectacular new installation Horizon Field Hamburg, designed for the large Deichtorhalle at Documenta 2012, in which a vast, black, reflective structure floats
25 feet above the floor. The suspended, slightly oscillating platform exploits the structural potential and architectural context of the building. Horizontal Field Hamburg elicits an experience of re orientation and reconnection mediated through vibration, sound, and reflection by functioning as a horizontal painting stretched taut in space. The viewer becomes a figure in an undefined, free floating spatio-temporal matrix. Essays by Iaian Boyd Whyte, Stephen Levinson and Dirk Luckow.
