Launch of the Book ‘Autorretrato / Self-portrait’
Last Thursday, 1 February 2024 7pm, Ivorypress hosted the book launch of ‘Autorretrato / Self-portrait’ with Luis Fernández-Galiano, Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano.
‘A House on the Sea. The setting, a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, where pine, oak, and cork trees find their way through magnificent granite rocks, sometimes in an unlikely fashion. A terrain that slides into a steep incline and expands in a southwardly direction, shielded from the northern winds by a forest-covered hill. At a height of one hundred meters, the house peeks out onto one of the most beautiful Mediterranean landscapes: the flat horizon of the sea, the pine groves leaning toward a rocky peninsula that divides and shelters two small coves of an intense blue and green. A scene capable of evoking distant places that had once been visited or imagined and now become present through a natural landscape of shared memories: the dazzling sunlight off the coast, rugged rocks and islets battered by the waves like the remains of archaic constructions beneath the sea. All are image associations of a common landscape, the Mediterranean; they are rooted in memories or are born out of invention, but are real nonetheless. In our minds, memories of lived and perceived spaces emerge through the senses, visions of journeys past that make up our biography. We are unable to interpret reality without thinking of the places we travel to, read about, or hear of, present in photographs or films we have seen. Fiction profoundly affects our notion of reality and our involvement in it, transcending perception and experience’. – Preview of the book ‘Autorretrato / Self-portrait’.
