In Two
Ivorypress was pleased to present In Two, the first solo exhibition by Callum Innes at Ivorypress.
In 2016 Ivorypress published the artist’s book Edges, for which Innes created a new body of work for our LiberArs series.
Innes understands painting as an additive process where the surface of the canvas starts to move and flow; it is once you take a closer look that the emotional life of the painting begins. His works evoke the divided field of a perceptual experiment in which one image is directed to the right hemisphere of the brain and the other to the left.
The works assembled in this exhibition become quasi sculptural and cryptographic, not quite monochrome, each one turning into a unique confection of texture and luminosity. They are full of taught restraint and sensuous abandon.
