Peress, a Magnum photographer based in Paris and New York, went to Teheran in 1979 to observe the situation there during the Iranian hostage crisis. These photographs were taken during a five-week period from December 1979 to January 1980 and were first displayed as a ten-page pull out in the New York Times. The telex messages that link the photos together were sent by Peress to and from Magnum’s New York and Paris offices. They give an illustration of the life of a photojournalist as well as a comprehensive account of Iran on the edge of revolution.\n\nRoth, A., The Book of 101 Books, pp.246-9; Parr, M. and Badger, G., The Photobook: A History, Vol.II, p.252-3; Auer, M. and M., 802 photo books, p.652.
