Lisette Model: A Performance in Photography
Photographer Lisette Model (1901-1983) is equally renowned for her shoot-and-run portraits of strangers and her mystification of her own life story. George Steeves, himself a celebrated photographer with similar interests to those of his subject, examines and extrapolates upon the life of this great photographer. Viewing Model as a performer as much as a photographer, he dissects her art, technique, and tumultuous working life as lived in three distinct acts. To do so he has selected specific works from Model’s extensive portfolio.
