Forest
Stuart Romes gorgeous black-and-white forest landscapes are brought together in this striking new oversized book, the artists first monograph. Informed by his earlier projects in which he examined the relationship between people and their environment in such distant places as Latin America and Indonesia the work presented in Forest shows no trace of humankind, instead offering a view of the natural world itself as a communicating entity. The choice of black-and-white materials simpli?es chaotic imagery; thus a new visual order appears, one that better suggests metaphor. Romes work is included in numerous public collections, including The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Beautifully printed in duotone on matt paper, and bound in rich Japanese cloth, Forest is printed in a ?rst edition of 1,000 casebound copies. A special edition of 50 numbered and signed copies, featuring a tipped-in original print on the front cover and presented in a clamshell box, is also availalable.
