Karen Hsiao uses a simple object, the rubber duck, and a single location, the bathtub, to examine and expose various stages of the human life cycle. From birth to death, through good times and bad, in sickness and in health, the human condition is a series of thematic episodes that Karen Hsiao presents as simple yet shocking portraits of unusual bathing beauties who represent our inner selves. Children, monsters, lovers, fighters, victims, and caregivers are all represented by charismatic models (some famous fetish models) in the tub with their rubber ducks. Dirty, insightful fun.\n\nIs a self taught Fine Art photographer who uses intense subject matters in an unconventional way. Primarily a figurative painter in her early years, Hsiao has since explored the figure and its space through various mediums, creating pieces that are both tactile and intuitive. She graduated from Art Center College of Design with a BFA.\n\nis one of the leaders of the Los Angeles underground art movement. He is a pervasive artist, painter, TV/movie producer, toy designer, and curator. The rubber duck in her book is a primordial symbol shaped by our developmental and psychological patterns in life. The book starts off with childhood, continues into adolescence, and ends with death. It is all together neatly tucked into a colorful yet strangely induced image driven book. This book is set for release July 2010, published by Baby Tattoo Books.
