The Pencil of the Sun: New Edition

Shomei Tomatsu is one of the most influential Japanese photographers of the post-war era. This new edition consists of two volumes: “The Pencil of the Sun 1975” and “The Pencil of the Sun 2015.” While the former 1975 version is upgraded with a new cover based on the out-of-print first edition issued in 1975, the latter 2015 version contains 103 photos of Tomatsu’s later works, both published and unpublished. Two of them were rearranged respectively by two different editors with discussion, intending to succeed the original perspectives of Tomatsu but add new contemplations for readers.
