A series of carefully titled photographs by the then London-based German photographer and former urban planner Gesche Würfel depicts an engagement with the places and spaces of the Lea Valley in East and North East London on the eve of their disappearance (Go For Gold!). The whole area was then about to be re-developed as the site of the 2012 Olympic Games. For those fond of those unusual even uncanny places her images were already poignant.nnAbout the Artist:nnGesche Würfel is a German visual artist who currently lives and works in New York City, NY. She received her BSc.+MSc. in Urban Planning from the University of Dortmund, Germany, and her M.A. in Photography and Urban Cultures from Goldsmiths, University of London, UK.nnHer work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2007, Würfel was selected as one of the Bloomberg New Contemporaries showcasing the best emerging talent from UK art schools.
