The researches that have traced the influence of the new pedagogical models that appeared in the 19th century, dedicated both to the education of the child and to the teaching of drawing, the basis of artistic practice in the avant-gardes (and, therefore, also in the art, architecture and design of the entire twentieth century, heirs of those), have not been reflected in an exhibition. A sample like that would imply, as is natural, to show the most varied educational games and didactic materials and, together with them, the works of art, in a single effective visual space. Precisely this is the story intended by The Game of Art. Pedagogies, art and design, an exhibition that wants to show how the innovative nineteenth century pedagogies are more radically based on the game and the “drawing for all” experience, inspired by Emilio (1762) by Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712) -1778) and whose most well-known distillation is perhaps Friedrich Froebel’s Kindergarten system (1782-1852), have been an efficient and neglected germ of the great change introduced into tradition by modern art, together with the emulation of tradition artistic (or the break with it), the knowledge of other cultures and times or the influence of literature and intellectual currents of the moment. The show wants, then, to make visible that the genesis of modern art is also found in the childhood of its protagonists and in the education they received.
