This book offers two different and complementary views on Buenos Aires. That of Horacio Coppola s allows us to see the town through its most emblematic images of the urban landscape with which he designed his own Buenos Aires: downtown and suburban streets, typical quarters, building changes. The chosen photographs, dating between 1929 and 1936, include several snapshots hitherto unpublished and the original negatives.
The photographs belonging to Facundo de Zuviría seem to preserve a balance between urban landscapes and poetic abstraction, thus in full accordance with Coppola s spirit. Hence, there appear buildings facades, shop-windows and different suburbs, wherein the artist thinks a deep and essential Buenos Aires still survives.
The city s thorough description presented in this book, shows, through its two creators eyes, something that is deeply rooted and preserved, i.e. an urban essence perpetually underlying behind the facades and its people, not easily to be defined though indeed intuitively perceived: the soul of Buenos Aires.
