Artistic books bound for the books of Mario Vargas Llosa

This show was exhibited at the Nobel Museum, Stockholm (Sweden) between November 2011 and January 2012. It was the sixth annual exhibition of hand-bound books by Nobel Laureates to be held at the Nobel Museum. It was also the third time that the exhibition included works by bookbinders from the country or linguistic region of the Laureate. In former years, J.M.G. Le Clézio and Herta Müller, French and German bookbinders were invited to participate in the exhibition. This year the editions of Mario Vargas Llosa’s work, published by Alfaguara, were bound in Sweden and Spain.

Every binder could choose to make one or two copies of the same book–one Swedish and one Spanish edition. The bookbinding exhibition was a tribute to the craft and to the creativity that each participating bookbinder contributed. The 38 unique interpretations of Vargas Llosa´s work were on view at Ivorypress between Monday 7 and Saturday 12 May. Per-Andres Hübner, Curator of the exhibition and Board member of the Swedish Bookbinders Guild, and Ana Ruiz Larrea, founding member of the association of Spanish Bookbinders (AFEDA), presented the works. Furthermore, on Wednesday 9 May Mario Vargas Llosa analysed, at the National Library of Spain, the influence of books, publishers, libraries and bookstores on his career and life.
The conference was held at the auditorium of the Spanish National Library at 19:00 h.

On 15 June at 19:00 pm, Mario Vargas Llosa and Juan Cruz had a conversation at Ivorypress, marking the first in a series of encounters with key figures in contemporary culture, entitled Conversaciones en Ivorypress.
