Ivorypress has organised a panel discussion about self-publishing, together with Photobook Club Madrid. It was attended by Bruno Ceschel, the publisher of Self Publish, Be Happy, who was joined by experts in different aspects of self-publishing: Gabriela Cendoya (collector), Olmo González (photographer and Community Manager at Blank Paper school of photography), Alberto Lizaralde (photographer), Naranjo—Etxeberria (design studio) and Javier Pérez (director of the library of Fine Arts at Madrid’s Universidad Complutense).

What are the limits of self-publishing? What outcome should the author expect? Does self-publishing mean self-financing, crowdfunding? What makes a collector decide between the hundreds of self-published books that exist today? Why do libraries buy them and who borrows them from those libraries? With the questions and the answers from the audience and from our panel of expert we have tried to trace a trajectory from the seed of an idea in the author’s mind to the casual encounter between book and reader on a shelf when you least expect it.
