PRESENTATION: LA METRÓPOLIS CONDENSADA BY JUAN JOSÉ SÁNCHEZ AEDO

On 21st March, Ivorypress hosted the talk La metrópoli condensada, with Juan José Sánchez Aedo, founder of Grupo Arquitech; Miquel Adrià, doctor in Architecture; José Luis Esteban Penelas, professor of Projects at UEM, and Belén Moneo, founding member of Moneo Brock.

La metrópoli condensada is the third monograph on the work of Grupo Arquitech. The book presents the group’s work diversification in different levels and applications, and reviews the projects developed between 2012 and 2016. It is divided into four sections, showcasing projects depending on their application, and including a series of interviews by Miquel Adrià to Francisco Serrano, Jorge Gamboa and Javier Sánchez, analysing the state of commercial development in Mexico, as well as its evolution and relevance in recent years.

José Luis Esteban Penelas is Dr in Architecture and professor of Architectural Projects at Escuela de Arquitectura, Ingeniería y Diseño, UEM (1999-2019). Visiting professor at several national and international universities and institutions, he has also written a large number of books and texts. He is the founder of the AIR Lab (Architectural International Research) group at UEM (2008-2019) and the director of Penelas Architects, which develops projects in Asia and Latin America, and has been granted with more than forty honours in architecture.

Miquel Adrià studied architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in Barcelona and holds a PhD in Architecture from the Universidad Europea de Madrid. In 1994 he moved to Mexico and, since then, combines practice, teaching and critique. He is the director of Arquine, a project dedicated to the diffusion of architectural culture, of the Architecture and City Festival MEXTRÓPOLI, as well as of the Escuela de Arquitectura at CENTRO, Mexico City. He has written on Mexican and Latin American contemporary architecture.

Belén Moneo has been a founding member of Moneo Brock since 1993. She studied at Harvard University from which she graduated magna cum laude in 1988. In 1991, she earned a master’s degree in Architecture, Planning and Preservation from Columbia University in New York.
She has developed her academic career as a professor on Architectural Analysis, department of Architectural Composition, at Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura (ETSAM). She is currently developing projects in Spain, United States, Mexico, Colombia and the Dominican Republic.
